A House inside a Church

This project shows how a 19th Century Church can be celebrated and yet made into a contemporary home. The challenge was to include 5 bedrooms, a study and a playroom within the existing church while still keeping the living area as the entire footprint.

Most of the rooms are provided at ground floor which supports the substantial living area. The whole space of the church & its ceiling can be enjoyed. The original windows bring light from all directions ; sunlight will be in this space from dawn to dusk. You can gain views towards the valley and the South. In the middle of this double height space, a little house holds the kitchen, fire place and, above, the master bedroom and its en-suite. 

We achieved planning approval of this Grade 2 Listed Building in April 2009. It started on site in spring 2011 when it was put on hold. The clients envisage to complete in 2019.
